

| Entrance Requirements: - High School Diploma/GED - Typing 25 words per minute - Interview with Director - Sign enrollment agreement - Pay registration fee - If a transfer, transcript from previous school and DRN release form if using financial aid. At the time of registration, the registration fee is due and a high school diploma/ transcript, or GED must be presented. A typing test is required at that time. Students wanting to participate in Financial Aid should fill out the FAFSA prior to enrolling. Graduation Requirements: - Complete or transfer credit for the following courses: English 101-103, Legal 101-102, Medical Terminology 101, Physiology & Anatomy 102, Court Reporting Procedures 101, Real Time Writing 101-102, Externship 101-102, Multivoice 101- 103, 12 University of Texas Law School depositions, Current Events, and Geography. Machine Shorthand 101-108 (Zero to 225 WPM theory and speed classes, tests at 97% accuracy). Three mocks consisting of 180 Lit, 200 Jury Charge, and 225 Testimony at 1.4 syllabic density. Length of program is 3,000 clock hours/195 COE credits/150 Department of Education credits. Most students take 3 to 4 years to complete the program. The maximum time limit for financial aid is 1 1/2 times the length of the program, which equals to 4,500 clock hours. An appeal may be filed for an additional one quarter extension. Once MS101 is completed the length of time spent in speed building classes varies with each student and with the amount of time the student practices outside of class. This course requires considerable practice outside of class to complete the program in 3 years. Please see the catalog for full details. Texas students must pass a Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) exam, which is given in Austin, Texas three times a year to work as a freelance reporter or an official reporter. Schedule Classes are held Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am - 1:00 pm except for Machine Shorthand 101, which is held from Noon - 4:50 pm. Rules & Regulations for Conduct Any student whose conduct interferes with the learning of other students will be cautioned upon his or her first violation. If such conduct continues, the student will be terminated. Any student, who is insubordinate, under the influence of narcotics or alcohol, uses obscene language, or whose conduct is abusive to instructors or other students will be terminated. Any student terminated for reasons of misconduct may be reinstated only in the Director's discretion. Any student who, in the opinion of an instructor and the Director, is repeatedly disruptive to the class or whose attitude is so lax and/or inattentive as to affect the morale and/or cause dissension among class members will be terminated. A student may not apply for re-enrollment until one complete grading period (one quarter) has expired. The illegal use, possession, sale, delivery, and/or manufacture of drugs or alcohol will not be tolerated, and will be grounds for immediate suspension or dismissal of students, faculty members, administrators, and other employees. Tuition & Fees Tuition is $2,100 per quarter/ $8,400 per year/4 quarters equals 1,000 clock hours. Registration fee is $100.00 Books average $800.00. These prices may increase as market conditions warrant. The institute will rent a manual machine for one quarter only at $60.00 plus tax. Then students are responsible for purchasing their own machine. A used SRT 400 is recommended and can generally be purchased for about $800.00. Please make sure that the machine is compatible with a computer. Students may purchase a manual machine for around $200.00. This school does not sell machines but we can put you in touch with vendors who do. Steno paper, ribbons and ink will be necessary supplies - estimated price is $564.00 There is a transcription fee of $300.00 ($25.00 per quarter) for 3,000 clock hours. By the time the student is in the 160 wpm level, it is recommended that a laptop be purchased. Student software for CAT (Computer Aided Transcription) will be needed. Prices vary from free to $495.00 depending upon the software brand. This institution has CaseCatalyst and Eclipse on the school's computers. Total price for 3,000 clock hours is $27,264.00. Any additional time after 3,000 clock hours will be charged and payable quarterly at $2,100.00 a quarter. VETERANS BENEFITS Regulations require that only a $10 registration fee may be charged.
