Kussad Institute of Court Reporting
Student Grievances:
Every attempt will be made by the faculty and the administration to address
student grievances or complaints as they occur. Please talk to your instructor
first to work out any issue. If that method is unsuccessful, then talk to the
Director. She will arrange a meeting between the student and the teacher and
every effort will be made to resolve the issue. For all other issues, please contact
the Director. Any unresolved issue should be submitted in writing to the Director
and the Director will respond in writing and the complaint and the response will
be placed in the student’s file. Should that attempt be unsuccessful, the
unresolved grievance should be referred to:

Refund Policy for Students called to Active Military Service
A student of the school or college who withdraws from the school or college as
a result of the student being called to active duty in a military service of the
United States or the Texas National Guard may elect one of the following
options for each program in which the student is enrolled:
(1) if tuition and fees are collected in advance of the withdrawal, a pro rata

and a cancellation of any unpaid tuition, fees, or other charges owed by the
student for the portion of the program the student does not complete following
withdrawal;
(2) a grade of incomplete with the designation "withdrawn-military" for the
courses in the program, other than courses for which the student has
previously received a grade on the student's transcript, and the right to re-enroll
in the program, or a substantially equivalent program if that program is no
longer available, not later than the first anniversary of the date the student is
discharged from active military duty without payment of additional tuition, fees,
or other charges for the program other than any previously unpaid balance of
the original tuition, fees, and charges for books for the program; or
(3) the assignment of an appropriate final grade or credit for the courses in the
program, but only if the instructor or instructors of the program determine that
the student has:

for completing the program.
Federal Refund Policy
- The law requires that if the student withdraws from school, the amount of
student financial assistance that has been earned up to that point is
determined by a specificformula.
- If you received more assistance than you earned, the excess funds must be
returned.
The amount of assistance that you have earned is determined on a pro-rata
basis.
- So if you completed 30 percent of the payment period or period of enrollment,
you earned 30 percent of the assistance you were originally scheduled to
receive.
- Once a student has completed more than 60 percent of the payment period
(one
quarter), then you have earned all of your assistance.
- All financial aid students receive The Student Guide published by The U.S.
Department of Education, which explains in detail the Return to Title IV
policy.
- If a student received excess funds that must be returned, we will notify
the student in writing. It is the responsibility of all financial aid students to read:
The Student Guide published by the U.S. Department of Education
The Federal Student Aid Information Center can answer any questions and
help you with any issues. 1-800--4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243)
All financial aid students must have an entrance and exit interview.
As stated in previous portions of this catalog, the student may owe additional
funds to the school, not covered by financial loans, when withdrawing or
graduating.
Please review the Texas Refund Policy on page 14/15. The Texas Refund
Policy is based on clock hours scheduled on each 12-month period of
enrollment.
Return to Title IV regulations are based on each quarter.
All returned Title IV funds will be returned in the following order:
- Pell
- Subsidized
- Unsubsidized
Notification by writing:
- Students will be notified by writing when funds have been returned.
- Students will be notified that their debt has been decreased.
Any refund due to a financial aid student, whether as a result of the Texas
Refund
Policy or the Return to Title IV regulations will be returned via electronic deposit
to
Pell or back to the lending institution. No refund will be issued to the student
personally.
